10 Common Interview Questions That Are Against the Law

Do You Have Children?

Even though the question sounds like a casual or un-harmful one, it is not permitted by law.

This is because an employer cannot deny employment to an individual just on the basis of having children or planning on having one in the future.

However, the law allows recruiters to ask direct questions regarding an individual’s other responsibilities or commitments that may have an impact on his/her work schedule.

What Religious Holidays Do You Practice?

Employers may come up with this question to see whether an individual’s lifestyle could interfere or hamper his/her work schedules and commitment. But since the employers cannot discriminate an individual on the basis of religion, it is deemed as illegal by law.

Instead of this question, the recruiter can ask whether an individual is available to work on particular days such as a holiday or weekends.
