3. University Of Mumbai
Established in 1857, the University of Mumbai is not just one of the first three of the oldest public state universities in the country, but also one of the premier universities that are continuously supplying a huge talent pool to sustain the economy since its inception. Located in the city of Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra, this institution was called as the University of Bombay until 1996, when the city of Bombay was renamed as Mumbai.
Dr John Wilson is the founder of this renowned institution and the institution was modeled on the universities in British Isles.
This premier university primarily imparts education through its several allied colleges, which are located in the city of Mumbai, the surrounding suburbs of the city of dreams, and six coastal districts in Maharashtra, namely, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Konkan, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.
