Senior Techies Opt For MNCs over Startups
In addition to this talent crunch, young firms also struggle to stumble on individuals with specific skill sets. These firms try to zero-in on individuals who can multi-task at ease, plus have a strong consumer focus, but unfortunately people with these proficiencies are a very rare breed to find.
"I have given up", exclaimed Mohammed Ali, Founder of Primaseller, which is a three-month-old firm that focuses on developing management solutions for retailers. As per Ali, who is an alumnus of IIM-Lucknow, he has been struggling to find a tech cofounder and his effort to reach out to various technology networks such as HasGeek and GitHub went in vain. And he said that, now he is concentrating on hiring junior engineers and is mentoring them to take on higher roles in the future.
Many young ventures in the industry are also looking westward for talent, but it is not very fruitful. And the main reason for this in most cases is money. In India most startups are willing to shell out close to 30 lakh along with equity to hire talent from abroad, but the average starting salary for U.S. based engineers with about 15 years of experience is somewhere in the range of $200,000, which is roughly equivalent to Rs 1.25 crore.
