Bangalore: Recession and the subsequent economic uncertainties have had an adverse effect on millions of children, all across the globe. As the aid to education plummets to an all time low, countries such as India, which has the third largest number of out-of-school children after Ethiopia and Pakistan, may face serious repercussions, reported SeethaLakshmi S of TNN. 
As per the recent Education For All (EFA) Global Monitoring Report (GMR), decline in aid to basic education by the U.S. has pushed the country down from being the largest bilateral donor to the subsequent position. Another chief contributor pushing EFA, the Netherlands, has chosen to phase out its support to education programmes. France has decided to cut short the aid to education; Japan has downsized the aid by about 30 percent, while Canada reduced its aid by 21 percent the previous year.
