Do Women Make Bad Bosses?

Bangalore: Today, many of the corporate consider employing both women and men workers with equal priority without any discrimination. Most of the studies speak women are better employees for doing multi-tasking. But, women occupying senior levels are less in number compared to their male counterparts.

Earlier this year, according to a Britain’s parliament report, said that there were no women bosses in 310 of the Britain’s top 350 companies. Likewise, what does the Indian scenario speak? ‘The National website’ reported that ‘Gender gap persists in Indian firms’. Even though India tops to adopt western business practices among all other South Asian countries, women in India’s top business ventures are still an unusual picture.  According to a study by a recruitment portal, MyHiringClub.com, only 6.6 percent of the India’s listed companies accommodated women on their board panels last year. 

There are many studies done on why women are not given an equal footing in corporate world. Do you think that India’s millennia-old social boundaries restrict the career growth of women? Do we hold the very traditional thought of ‘jobs for men’? Or are there any serious challenges to employ a women in workforce?

Yeah, apart from the so-called challenges like lack of an enabling background, flexi working hours, child rearing, the lack of support which women faces in advancing their career, there are some challenges they bring to others. The recent study conducted by the British Association of Anger Management found that women bosses are hounding their colleagues and employees. Whereas a fifth of top female executives use impolite verbal language at work, 10 percent of women executives tend to shame their colleagues if things get wrong.  Over anxiety is cited as the main reason which turns 90 percent of women to over-stress and 60 percent to poor-management.
