Anthropic, the AI Company behind the advanced Claude model, is expanding its global footprint by opening a new office in Bengaluru, India. The company plans to start hiring locally in early 2026, aiming to develop AI systems tailored to India’s unique needs.
Dario Amodei, Co-Founder and CEO of Anthropic, is visiting India this week to share Anthropic’s vision of building responsible AI that drives social good and economic growth. He emphasized India’s vast technical talent pool and government’s commitment to ensuring AI benefits reach across society. “India’s AI ecosystem will shape the global future of AI in a fair and inclusive way”, Amodei said.
Anthropic’s India expansion focuses on three key areas, supporting India’s startup ecosystem to create globally competitive companies, deploying AI in important sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture, and partnering with Indian enterprises and nonprofits to scale AI solutions responsibly.
The Bengaluru office was chosen for its strong talent base and vibrant enterprise community. This will be Anthropic’s second office in the Indo-Pacific region after Tokyo, with plans to grow further in the area.

Paul Smith, Chief Commercial Officer at Anthropic, highlighted the growing demand from Indian businesses and startups for trustworthy AI models that combine cutting edge technology with safety and reliability. “India’s innovation ecosystem is full of promise, with startups and enterprises building AI solutions that impact millions worldwide”, he added.
