5. UK National Health Service [NHS]:
The National Health Service is the shared name of three of the four publicly funded healthcare systems in the United Kingdom namely National Health Service [England], Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland, NHS Scotland and NHS Wales, reports the Wikipedia. These systems are mainly funded through general taxation rather than requiring insurance payments and all these systems were established in 1948. They all provide a widespread range of healthcare services where the vast majority of which are absolutely free at the point of use to residents of the United Kingdom.
According to the BBC 2012 ranking of the world’s largest employers, NHS has been ranked in the 5^th position as it has employed around 1.7 million employees as of 2012 and now it might have increased again.
4. McDonald’s:
The world’s largest chain of Hamburger fast food restaurants has been spread across 119 countries across the world serving around 68 million customers every day. The company that is headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, United States was started in the year 1940 by Richard and Maurice McDonald. Mc Donald’s is famous for selling hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries, breakfast items, chicken, soft drinks etc.
As per the BCC ranking McDonald’s has been placed as the 4^th largest employer in the world by having a employee count around 1.9 million as of 2012 and at present as mentioned in Wikipedia, it is the employer of 1,800,000 as of 2013.
