Not only acting, but he had also directed movies like Manoranjan in 1974, where he played a supporting role and Bundal Baaz in 1976 starring with Rajesh Khanna. But unfortunately none of the movies were commercially successful. In 1980s and 1990s, he started playing supporting role in many films. He did a social melodrama serial called Chattan aired on Zee TV for more than a year in 90's and also he made his appearances in Salman Khan and Urmila Matondkar starrer Jaanam Samjha Karo in 1999. He was not only romantic hero onscreen, but he carried out his romantic image off-screen too. In reel life he played many roles of a lover boy but when comes to real life, he played the same. He met Geeta Bali in the year 1955, during the shooting of the film 'Rangeen Raaten' and they fell in love. But since she was older than him, the Kapoor family was skeptical about their relationship. But no one could stop their love and they got married. They had a son Aditya Raj Kapoor and a daughter, Kanchan. Geeta Bali died due to small pox in the year of 1966 and after that Shammi Kapoor went for second marriage with Neela Devi Gohil. He also had a link up with Mumtaz but it end up with a failed romance.
