Journalists have a lot of things to be worried and fear about these days, especially in a country like India where 28 journalists have lost their lives in the last two decades.

One such example is Rajesh Mishra who lost his life on 1st of March 2012, in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. He was a journalist working for a local Hindi language weekly named ‘Media Raj’. He was hit on the head with an iron rod by two assaulters while he was at a public tea stall in Rewa town of central Madhya Pradesh. He was immediately admitted to a local hospital but died soon after.

Another example is the killings of Chandrika Rai and his family on 18th February 2012, a freelance journalist. Chandrika Rai wrote for two local Hindi-language dailies namely Hitavada and Navbharat. He had recently reported regarding illegal coal mining near his home town of Umaria in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Apart from these things, a reporter’s job is dangerous especially if they go to cover terror attacks or wars.
