Panjab University- India's New Flag Bearer on the Global Stage
In the words of Phil Baty, Editor of the Times Higher Education, "These results should be encouraging for India. While no Indian institution makes the top 200, one player new to the rankings, Panjab University, is close in the 226-250 group. Moreover, India now has five representatives in the top 400 - a sign of growing commitment to the global rankings", reports TNN.
Meanwhile, the California Institute of Technology (CIT), Harvard University, University of Oxford, Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are the top five entries in the list. CIT has received top honors for the third consecutive year, while Harvard University regained the second place after a slump in 2012-13 rankings. University of Oxford is joint second and Stanford University slides to fourth from joint second position in the previous year.
With about 77 entries in the top 200, U.S. emerged as the dominant force in the list, followed by UK with 31 representations. While with 5 entries, Japan emerged as the best performing nation among the Asian countries.
