Leadership Crisis In IIMs Across The Nation
Salaries Matter Too
When there is issue in funding the organization, it is not very obvious that there will be complications in paying off these leading directors who join as directors? One of the director at IIM says, “There is monotony. There is no time to do consulting as I have to spend 15-20 hours in office. I used to teach in foreign universities where you get a chance to interact with the best of the brains in the world. But now I have stopped that too.”
Another top official claims, "Often, if a director demands something, immediately there are people who will write anonymous petitions to ministry, etc. It happens in all IIMs and IITs."
With no specific director to set path and vision for the upcoming IIMs, the progress, development and dignity of these IIMs are stagnant. Management and authorities should take definite measures to project better pictures in near future.
"New IIMs have no mission and identity about what they are going to do and who they will serve. Since the mission is not clear it is difficult to find leaders," says Atish Chattopadhyay, deputy-director, PGDM program, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research.
