Job Aspirants Beware! Backtracking On a Job Offer May Prove To Be Very Costly
Bangalore: Job aspirants, here is a shocker! If you ever accept a job offer but don't join, you may have to pay a penalty. Phillips Carbon Black Limited (PCBL), which is country’s largest carbon black manufacturer, has recently come up with a 'penalty clause' in its offer letter to 15 candidates, which holds them legally accountable to pay 5 percent of offered salary (CTC) if they accept the offer and refuse to join, as reported Devina Sengupta of ET Bureau.
Following a thorough scrutiny, two candidates refused to accept the offer and a vice-president hopeful had to shell out 4.5 lakh for violating the clause.
As per Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, executive director of human resources (HR) of the carbon maker, they would have invested a lot while screening for the candidates and if a probable employee does a U-turns, their efforts will be in vain and it will take them back by a month, which is unacceptable.
According to the recruiters, zeroing in on a junior cadre with the desired credentials can take up to a week, whereas, the same process can go up to three months while screening for senior professionals. And a last minute dropout squanders all their hard work. Thus such clauses will make the candidates think twice before they decide to backtrack.
