Indian Cities to Witness a Dip in Hiring, except Delhi

Bangalore: According to the latest report on Employment Outlook conducted by the staffing firm Teamlease, the January- March quarter in 2012 has shown a dip in hiring across most of the major Indian IT Hubs. The Net Employment Index seems still on its way to recovery after there was a sudden dip in the process of hiring.

The report also states that in terms of enthusiastic business and employment sentiments, the January – March quarter would be interesting to understand the patterns of sentiments that have followed across various clusters of major cities. 3 out of 8 sectors have shown a dip in hiring in this quarter with IT sector topping the list with dropping down by 4 points in the process of hiring. Financial Service sector has topped the employment index by increasing 4 points significantly to achieve a 12 month high; Telecommunication sector has gained 3 points in this Jan-Mar quarter after a sudden drop over the previous quarter. Likewise, the Retail and FMCG and Manufacturing and Engineering sectors continue to remain stable in this current quarter.

With this drop the IT and ITES sectors have shaved their respective indices by about 15 points each from over four consecutive quarters. When we come to the city perspective most of the major IT hubs have experienced drop in the hiring process with a down by 10 points. Even though many major cities like Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune have experienced hiring drop down, Delhi remains stable with a 3 points rise in employment outlook and a smart 5 point rise in business outlook. It has turned out to be the only city with an improvement in both the employment and business outlook.
