Bangalore: The students who appeared for the Joint Entrance Exam Advanced (JEE Advanced) were in for a shock on Sunday when they were caught off guard by the new marking scheme and format of the paper, as reported by Bhavya Dore of Hindustan Times. 

Approximately 1.27 lakh candidates who cleared JEE-Mains were eligible to attend the JEE-Advanced, which is the second level exam for entry into the IITs.

IIT aspirants were surprised with the new format of negative markings being introduced for several questions, and omitted from others.

As per Aditya Kale, who was among the toppers in the JEE-Mains, it was tough paper and the new marking scheme added to the difficulty. 

 “It was quite a surprise. But you have to be prepared for changes and deal with it”, said Palak Jain, one of other toppers in the JEE-Mains, as reported by the Hindustan Times. 

As per the respondents, most of the questions were tricky and one coaching institute even reported two minor mistakes in the paper, though none were confirmed.

As per HC Gupta, Chairperson, JEE 2013, it is common for JEE exam pattern to change, and added that, the 2013 JEE-Advanced exam was carried out without any hiccups and all the questions were within the syllabus.  

As per RL Trikha, director, coaching institute FIITJEE, though the exam was quite challenging, serious and focused individuals shouldn’t have any problems to pass with flying colors.

The markings scheme also saw a dramatic change this year. While previous year’s papers totaled above 400 marks, this year’s paper carried only 360 marks.

There were also some indications of the cut-off marks being reduced.
