IISc, the Sole Indian Entry in the Elite 500 Club

Bangalore: Bangalore-based Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has once again proved that it is second to none, by making it to the elite list of top 500 universities of the world. Toppling the much fancied institutions of the country such as the IITs, IISc has made the country proud by featuring among the best in the world. The 104-year-old institution is ranked among 301-400 category in the list of top 500 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2013 released by the Center of World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as reported by Seethalakshmi S for TNN.

IISc, which was slotted at the 45th position for Chemistry the previous year, has jumped up two positions to garner the 43rd slot this time. The institution also witnessed remarkable advancements in Computer Science. From 101-150 category last year, the varsity has jumped to 51-77 bracket. In math, the institute -secured its previous 151-200 slot.
