BENGALURU: The government sets up review committee to thoroughly go through the study structure and academic planning of UPSC’s civil service exam. The same will suggest if different participating courses like IAS and IPS requires extension in selection procedure through IT solutions including an online examination, reports TOI.
Headed by former IAS officer B S Baswan, this review committee will prescribe alterations for both Civil Services (Prelims) exam and Civil Services (Mains) exam. It will also look into the issue, if, separate set of papers are needed in IAS, IPS and other services, considering the versatility required to crack such exams. The panel will also review the time frame in which the exams will happen and also pen down change of timing in these exams.
In a TOI interview, a senior officer of the department of personnel and training (DoPT) said, "The purpose is to overhaul the entire examination scheme and suit the selection process to the skills required for each set of services." The same panel will figure out methods of selecting students in these open exams keeping the scope of fair mix of candidates, talents needed for a modern, effective and efficient civil service; and trainings for the qualified candidates considering other recommendations made by prior committees appointed.
The aim of the Baswan Committee is “to arrive at an examination pattern that is holistic and does not exhibit any bias for or against candidates from any particular stream, subject area, language, or region,” says a notice of USPC dated 12 August.
Putting a tentative deadline for all the revised rules to be implemented, this committee will submit its final report within six months.
Other areas that the Baswan Committee will check are minimum and maximum age limits for students to appear and be a part of these courses.
