E-commerce Firms Hiring in Big Numbers at IIMs

RedBus, which is a Bangalore-based online bus ticketing firm, only had summer interns from the IIM’s until now. But this year the company had given two job offers at IIM-Indore and in the upcoming weeks will be heading to Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Kolkata campus for recruitment. "The pre-placement talks have generated interest and we expect slots to be confirmed soon.
The newer IIMs have been after us, but we do not want to go there," said Shankar Prasad, COO of RedBus. Originally the company plans to recruit the IIM graduates as management trainees and shift them into middle-management roles later.

It is reported that, this year the opportunity that is being showcased by e-commerce firms is similar of the 2009 placement season, during which  state-run banks and other PSUs were big recruiters on the IIM campuses as their private and foreign companions remained away due to the global recession. Although this time the economic scenario around is not as bad as in 2008-09, the placement scene is moderate and IIMs have been encouraging students to look ahead of traditional recruiters offering high salaries.
