With a handy 13 public holidays every year, the Portuguese workers all together receive 22 vacation days each year. In case employers fail to give workers a day off on these holidays, the company needs to compensate with either another day off or pay double their normal wage.

However, regardless to this the Portuguese Govt cancelled four of these holidays starting from this year for the next five years as part of the nation's greater economic austerity movement. Due to this instance the nation's economy went down by 3.2 percent, worse than any other nation except Greece and Portugal's debt also shot up from 71.6 percent of GDP to 123 percent.
