Cos Lure Employees With Innovative Hacks to Beat the Traffic
BANGALORE: The Gurgaon campus of the electronics firm, Philips, has a new perk for their employees up its sleeve. The employees that fail to find a place to park their car can head back and opt for work from home, considering that logging in from home is easier and faster in comparison to finding a parking lot, reports ET.
However, there are professionals like D Shivakumar, Chairman of PepsiCo who opt to hit the road early in the morning just to avoid getting stuck in traffic.
Traffic hauls are one of the biggest problems the working class faces in India, today. Over years, the surge in the number of cars, lack of traffic management, and shortage of parking places have made the concept of reaching home nothing less than a battle. Situation is grim in places in and around New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Keeping this in mind, some companies have become flexible about the working hours and schedules providing leeway to workers while logging in and out of the workplace. In addition to this, some companies are allowing more work from home to make situation easier for employees whereas some also have shifted office locations nearer to employees’ dwellings.
Mumbai-Based Future Group set working hours for employees based on the traffic dynamics whereas SAP Labs in Bengaluru doesn't take into account the entry and exit timings of employees. PricewaterhouseCoopers India’s third office in Mumbai was located in the western suburb of Goregaon just to meet less traffic. "At the end of the day, we want our employees to maintain a work-life balance. Otherwise, it will impact their productivity," said Jagjit Singh, human capital leader, PwC India.
A report by Ford reveals that a majority of the people traveling everyday were suffering from stress to face back to back traffic, for panic of accidents and even parking difficulties. The report also unveils that drivers in India spend close to 12 hours in a week in traffic.
