This question is intended to get a clear picture of how well did you understand your bosses role. You might have had a horrible time working under him and might have heated him, but this is not the time to go into that.
You can respond to this question by stating that, “I worked in close association with my boss on several projects and have a great deal of professional respect for his ability to get the job done". And if you are pushed to disclose your personal feelings towards your current or ex-boss, something like "I believe that irrespective of whether I liked or disliked him personally has little or no significance. What is more important is that we worked as a team and came up with some excellent results", would sound more professional.
