A firm handshake
There is an old saying “Judge a person by the way they shake your hand”. Make sure that you give your interviewer a firm handshake, once you walk up to them. A feeble or an unbearably hard handshake will not do very good for you. The handshake has to be just rigid enough to showcase your confidence. While shaking the hands, make sure that you look into the eye of your interviewer and give a rise smile. Be aware that your interviewer will judge you on the type of handshake you give, so be sure that it is good.
Eye to eye
After your steady handshake, and your rising smile, your interview will actually start. This is the phase that you need to maintain the momentum of your interview. Any drop in the excitement that you have built can be hazardous for you. This is where the trick of maintaining an eye contact will help. It has been seen as a common habit of the interviewees to gaze away while having a conversation. Don’t do this, as this can be taken against you. This can be interpreted as a sign of lying, lack of confidence or incompetence. The right thing to do is alternate your eye contact between their left eye, then right eye and then the mouth and repeat. In the case of a panel interview, be sure to do it to every person not sequentially, but at random. This makes it seem more natural.
