Tech Biggies Hire More Women To Tide Over Gender Imbalance

BANGALORE: There’s a significant gap between men and women when it comes tobeing hired or the same positionin the tech sector. However, the male dominant tech sector is witnessing a steep growth in the number of women being for technical positions. Indian firms are increasingly hiring women to bring in diversity in the work force, reports ET.

The IT industry has always been perceived as a male dominated industry following the ‘bro-code’. However companies are now taking the initiative to bridge the gender gapand employ skilled female professionals for technical roles.

According to Google’s recent report on employment diversity, the total numberof women hired in tech roles has increased by 1 percent compared to the last year and currently accounts for 21 percent. "Though we still have a long way to go, we're seeing some  progress," said a post on Google+ by the company. Companies like Capgemini and Tech Mahindra also saw growth in the number of women hired. On the other hand, tech biggies like Infosys, Wipro and Microsoft have not stated the exact figures but mention about their projects that focus on women development and encouragement.

The present figure for the women employees in Capgemini stands at 26 percent compared to 24.2% in 2013 to 25.7% in 2014. The campus placement drives also witnessed growth in this matter, where the company hired 43.1 percent female engineers in contrast to 39.2 percent last year.
