BENGALURU: Most of the big companies usually hire employees in bulk, where few of them get the opportunity to get involved in the project but others have to sadly wait for their turn. This is the phase where an employee sits idle without any work and still gets paid, which is in the corporate terminology referred as being ‘on the bench’.

Well, this could be the honeymoon holiday period for employees, but it is important that they use it productively. Here are few tips to utilize this period in a productive way.

Stay Updated

This is the best time to gain knowledge about latest technologies and current trends. It is necessary to keep oneself updated through constant re-skilling and training. Employees must attend all the training sessions provided by company through online sessions and courses to reach new heights.

Grab Opportunities to learn

Communicate with collogues and other people, build a strong network, share your knowledge and look for opportunities to learn and grow. Interacting with people working in other projects and understanding common things like internal apps, about the process can help employees to remain productive.

Adding value to the team

Many firms do allot several tasks to the benched employees to scale up their potential and be trained in before the project. Benched staff can contribute towards business goals by using opportunities for small projects. This will keep benched employees active and productive.

Be Creative

Benched employees have plenty of time to explore and evolve. Most importantly benched employee must stop sabotaging themselves and come up with creative notions; in fact they should challenge their thoughts and establish a productive mindset.

During your bench days, try and implement thing you learn. Knowledge is the only potential power; it becomes beneficial when it is used efficiently. At the end of each week ask yourself what have I learnt for the week?  How can I be improving? And then there you are a better human being and most importantly a productive employee.
