When To Jump In Hot Pursuit Of A New Job

BENGALURU: Jobs, especially the one which pays well enough and bound you by its perks and offerings, becomes your daily life routine and make you feel hooked up to it. It is may be because you have started convincing yourself that your life is running pretty awesome with two-three parties in a month or a trip to Thailand that you took last year never seemed costly to you.

However, once in a blue moon, the thought of changing your job or planning for your own start-up strikes your mind. Still, you end up saying, “this is fine—may not my dream job, but it’ll continue for some more time,” every time.

Does this mean it is wrong to feel content with your job in hand?

NO. But do you have a clue that your complacency is creating the worst scenario in the back of your mind?  You become fatigued. You start making excuses for your comfort and that eventually leads to fear. The fear holds you back.

Never snug as a bug. Learn through the telltale signs as for when to plan your next move?

1. You lack passion – You were gleeful to join and excited about making contributions in the company you’re employed right now. But it is not there anymore. Your inter-stimulus cells are no more alive or don’t respond when you think about coming to work every day.

2. You’re living the Status Quo – It is possible that you’re having a good time at your present job. So, when was the last time you were promoted in last two-three years or you really learned something worth? If you didn’t, and you wish to move your career forward, it’s time you start thinking for a change.

3. Your company is sinking – You have a high team spirit and leadership quality in you and your boss admires you for that. Well played! But, is your company making you overstay without a good hike or do you often go home without getting your salary? Maybe your company is sinking. There’s no need to go down with this ship. Put on your life preserver and get in the water.

4. You wish for your own kingdom– Taking up entrepreneurship or a start-up project is not a cake walk, it takes huge courage besides great idea. If you observe daily life problem/problems that affect millions of people around you and think about making difference to them, oftentimes, it’s time you start planning and take the big leap.

5. Headhunters have something for you – Do you regularly receiving emails and calls from recruiters or job portals. It’s because, i) your industry is “hot”, ii) Oceanful of opportunities are knocking the door. Also, if you’ve managed your career trajectory over the time, you’ll be forced from inside to take the next step well before the obvious time.
