Is IIT-Kanpur Losing Its Charm?

BANGALORE: Recently, with the results of IIT-JEE being declared, students along with their eager parents are making their preference for their favorite IITs across India. For long, IIT Kanpur has been enjoying a top position among all other IITs, but this year it has been struggling to keep its charm alive. 

This current year only two successful candidates among the top rankers (first 100) have chosen IIT-Kanpur as their preferred destination. Reports Rediff.com

The dramatic change in trend of choosing the preferred IIT is more dependent on its location. With advent of technology and growing opportunities in the metropolitan cities, students desire to in better location for great exposure and job opportunities.

Apart from these factors, majority of students hail from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai or stay close-by, so in turn, they prefer these cities rather than going far away from home.

A senior official stated, “The IITs in Mumbai and Delhi have become the most favored destinations of most successful candidates now,” reports Rediff.

Established in 1960, as India's second IIT, the Kanpur institute was part of an initiative to conceive a grand design for technical education in India.
