BENGALURU: A nostalgic tendency has been noticed in IIM students this year along with less number of international offers. The rate of international placement was 41 last year that reduced down to 25 in this placement session. The ETI reported that not only the offers from U.S. and Europe has decreased, even the number of students opting for home location has increased.

In IIM Bangalore, the rate of foreign offers reduced by 39 percent and in IIM Kozhikode, it went down by 40 percent.

Sankarshan Basu, Chairperson, Career Development Services said, "India is becoming a nerve center for many companies. There were some cases where a student had a choice of 2 job locations; one abroad, and the student chose a domestic option."

A big deduction is even noticed on the part of recruiters, as Bank of America didn’t even participate in global posting in one of the well known IIMs. Similar is the case with two other big time recruiter firms, Kadence International and NMC Healthcare, who recruited 9 students last years, but didn’t participate this year.

As per Rohin Kapoor, senior manager at Deloitte India who tracks the education sector, last year’s International recruiters may have noticed that the market has not grown as fast as they had expected, so they are holding back hiring from India to some extent this time.

One more factor affecting this nostalgia among Indian students is the growing opportunities and attractive salaries in fresh startup companies. India is growing at a rate of 7.5 percent with latest opportunities. In IIM Kozhikode, the international offer went down to 15 from 25. As per a placement team member from IIM Indore the recruiters don’t want to come for only few students rather than hiring locally or offering a job transfer from India.

While IIM Kozhikode managed to bag 5 international offers, IIM Lucknow, XLRI, IIM Indore and MDI managed to maintain the record of the previous years. The companies offering foreign placement to the top B schools are Aditya Birla Group, Godrej Industries Limited and Allied Companies, Avnash Group and Dott Test.

The result is still awaited for IIM Kolkata and IIM Ahmadabad.
