IITs Groom Students' Soft Skills To Make Them Job-Ready

BANGALORE: They crack the toughest of questions and solve mightiest of problems-they are IIT students. Sadly they lack the skill to communicate and present themselves in spite of the immense knowledge bag.
IITs in India are the institutions which provide best of its facilities to its students to bring the best out of them. The selection process for admission into IITs involves series of examinations, which proves that only those with very strong intelligence are incorporated into the institution.
Students have promising placements after their graduation from IITs. The companies which employ students have had the tradition of training the selected candidates according to the work structure. Now due to the expenses involved in the process of training, these companies choose to recruit such candidates who are efficient enough to work from day one without having to undergo any initial training.
This new method of recruitment opts out those students who lack good communication and interpersonal skills, which makes it difficult for them to get placed. Therefore there is increasing need to facilitate such students with required coaching.
IIT Hyderabad, being one of the best rated among the newer IITs has introduced a new program to its students, which provides professional training in soft skills development which rightly adheres to the problem mentioned above. The objective of this pilot program is to improve reading, writing and speaking skills among 1,500 of its students.
Accordingly the institution had tied up with Talent Sprint, a professional skill development organization.  Students from IIT-H can now enroll themselves for a 36-hour remedial coaching program which is open to all the B-Tech, M-Tech and PhD students.
