Companies Opting for Real Time Assessment of Employees

BENGALURU: Things are changing in the office arena and companies are getting smarter in dealing with their employees by opting for a more real-time tracking to judge them and their sentiments. The days of annual appraisal seem to be a thing of the past, as companies are opting for real-time assessment to judge the mood in the office.

Many companies are in the middle of upgrading their feedback systems, so that they can give feedback as soon as they are with the interaction or using an app. According to ET, Siddhesh Bhobe, Center Head-Pune, Persistent Systems was quoted as saying, "So far, we've had a mood indicator where people would change their status to reflect how they are feeling. We want to make this more real time and get their feedback on how they feel."

This helps Bhobe and other members of the HR team to judge the mood of the employees. This might act as a general way for the employees to vent their feelings. The companies seem to be following the old saying “Happy employees make for happy customers.” Even with high attrition rate, companies are well aware of the fact that as the age profile of average employee changes, old methods don’t count for much.

HCL Technologies, which has been busy restructuring its HR policies, is leading the charge with a Happiness Index, which helps to determine the mood of the organization. The system is designed to automatically push out a short survey to anyone who has undergone a change of some sort. This could be the new manager.
