88 Pct IIT-B Students Claim Professors Are Incompetent

It was also revealed that 88 percent of the students believe that only a few lecturers were enthusiastic about teaching, while most were not.

Teachers have cited that large classes, shortage of faculty, surge in number of students and lack of time for preparation as some of the reasons for unproductive teaching, according to the report.

Lecturers claim that they have to perform two jobs, i.e. teaching and research, and increased emphasis on one could impact the other. Also, the fact that 75 percent of the IITians feel that they can score a respectable grade by studying a night before the examination, mirrors the bad standard of learning process at the institution.

Devang Khakhar, Director of IIT-B, claim that they are constantly working on improving the standards of teaching and learning at the institution and have plans to set up a centre for effective teaching and learning. He also added that the institution is making efforts to build new lecture halls, thereby reducing the class size and increase the interactions between the lecturers and the students.
