Most professionals in this field are women, and a Dietician / Nutritionist are basically specialists in nutrition and food. These professionals plan nutrition and food programs, as well as supervise the serving and preparation of meals. They avert or treat illnesses by promoting good eating habits, administering diet modifications if necessary and direct people on what to eat in order to lead a healthier life or attain a specific health-related goal. Dieticians and nutritionists carry out food service programs for institutions such as schools or hospitals, conduct research and endorse sound eating habits through education.   

Dietitians / nutritionists work in many settings, which include hospitals, nursing homes, schools and some opt to be self-employed with their own practice.

As per the PayScale website, women in this field earn a salary of around $770 per week which is two percent above the average for men, who earn an average salary of $759 per week, as reported by Sara Yin of Huffingtonpost.com.
