BANGALORE: If you’re looking for a new job, it is rest assured that you have to answer some tough questions in the interview process. But did you know there are some questions that are illegal for employers to ask you? Well, here are few common questions that employers shouldn’t be asking, under the law, as reported Terri Williams of TheRichest.
Age
Did you know asking “age” in the interview process could cost you dear? Well, that is what it is like according to the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), which prevents employers from discriminating against workers over the age of 40.
Not only that, it is also illegal to ask applicants their age, date of birth, or any sort of information that would reveal their age. In addition, it is also against the law to ask for a birth certificate during the interview process.
However, it is only when the applicant is a minor, the employers are allowed to ask for a work permit or a certificate of age. Conversely, an interviewer can ask if the applicant can provide proof of age if he is hired.
