Gargi Pare: She is from St. Mary's Convent Sr Secondary School, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Gargi has worked on a chemistry based project called the "Nano Zerovalent Iron - The Solution for Color Waste Water Remediation".
The main reason for Gargi to take up this project is that the dyeing cottage industry in the city of Ujjain has created huge pollution in the sacred Kshipra River with its colored effluent and she wish to find out a potential GREEN method to treat this colored waste. And the Nano ZeroValent Iron (nZVI) is emerging as new green option for the treatment of contaminated water due to their small size, fast reaction, less cost, less exposure for workers, non-toxic end products and less equipment can be used for wastewater treatment. She has made an attempt propose to design a batch reaction system demonstrating that the representative dye Direct Blue 1 can be effectively decolorized and possibly degraded by using nano zerovalent iron.
Sindura Saraswathi: She is from Vivekananda English Medium High School, Mangalore, Karnataka. She has worked on "Bio Pesticide For The Control Of Helopeltis Antonii In Cocoa Plant". And this project comes under the Environmental Science category.
The pesticide is a must and should be environmental friendly and we found large loss of cocoa crop due to Helopeltis antonii. So in this project they have formulated a solution which contains plant extracts which mostly repel the insects and even if it attacks the crop it kills it and friendly to birds, animals and human. Plants used are Strychnos nux-vomica,Vitex negundo, Garlic extraction, Indian Elm and Neem oil in soapnut solution. Effectively controls Helopeltis antonii.
