IIT Bombay is a public engineering institution located in Powai, Mumbai. It has been ranked among the top engineering colleges in India. It is the second-oldest institute of the Indian Institutes of Technology system.
IIT Bombay was founded in 1958 and in 1961, the Parliament declared IIT as Institutes of National Importance. IIT Bombay has a comprehensive graduate program that offers doctoral degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Currently IIT Bombay has a total of 14 academic departments, six centers, one school, and three interdisciplinary programmes. Over the last 53 years, around 39,000 engineers and scientists have graduated from this renowned institute.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is a public research university located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1959 as one of the first Indian Institutes of Technology, the institute was created with the assistance of an association of nine leading U.S. research universities as part of the Kanpur Indo-American programme. IIT Kanpur has been benefited from the Kanpur Indo-American Programme, where with the help of nine U.S. universities it has been able to set up the research laboratories and academic programmes.
In 1972 the KIAP program ended, because of tensions due to the support provided by the U.S. to Pakistan. Government funding was also reduced as a reaction to the sentiment that was raised by the IITs relating to this instance. Since then IIT Kanpur has increased collaboration with industry and has achieved a reasonable level of stability.
