Technology giant IBM has announced plans to skill 5 million people in India by 2030, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and quantum computing. The initiative reflects IBM’s long-term commitment to building future-ready talent in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies.
Speaking on Friday, Arvind Krishna, Chairman, President, and CEO of IBM, said India has the talent and ambition to lead globally in AI and quantum technologies. He noted that fluency in frontier technologies will shape economic competitiveness, scientific advancement, and social progress in the years ahead.
Krishna said IBM’s skilling commitment is an investment in India’s future. By expanding access to advanced digital skills, the company aims to empower young people and students to innovate, build careers, and contribute to national growth.
As part of the initiative, IBM will scale AI and emerging technology education across schools, universities, and vocational training ecosystems. The company will collaborate with institutions such as the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to promote hands-on learning. These efforts will include faculty training, curriculum integration, hackathons, internships, and practical AI learning pathways.
The skilling program will be delivered through IBM SkillsBuild, the company’s global digital learning platform. SkillsBuild offers over 1,000 free courses covering AI, cybersecurity, quantum computing, cloud technologies, data science, sustainability, and workplace skills. The platform supports learners, educators, and institutions with industry-relevant content.

With this initiative, IBM aims to help India build a strong pipeline of skilled professionals ready for the next wave of technological transformation.
