Coursera Translates 4,000 Courses into Hindi with Generative AI

In an effort to boost expansion in the thriving online education sector, renowned U.S. company Coursera has utilized generative AI to translate approximately 4000 courses into Hindi. Coursera has unveiled several new initiatives aimed at improving access to top-notch education in India, catering to the requirements of learners and institutions in the country. According to the statement released by Coursera, the recent initiative encompasses a broad array of educational content in Hindi, incorporating AI-driven features to elevate online learning, making it more individualized and engaging. The announcement also mentioned that popular courses such as "Generative AI for Everyone" from DeepLearning.AI, "The Science of Well-Being" from Yale University, "Programming for Everybody" from the University of Michigan, and "What is Data Science" from IBM, previously offered in English, will now be accessible in Hindi.

Additionally, Coursera has revealed a roster of new enterprise and campus clients, reflecting the increasing adoption of online learning by institutions throughout India to empower their employees and students with digital expertise. It is noteworthy that India stands as Coursera's second-largest global market, boasting more than 23.4 million learners and 57 million enrollments on the platform. CEO Jeff Maggioncalda emphasized Coursera's commitment to providing top-notch education universally, irrespective of language barriers.

A comprehensive selection of over 4,000 courses is now accessible in Hindi, encompassing some of the most sought-after courses in India. Learners have the opportunity to engage with course materials, including readings, lecture video subtitles, quizzes, assessments, peer review instructions, and discussion prompts, all presented in the local language. Additionally, more than 40 courses featuring prominent Indian educators, such as Introduction to Programming from BITS Pilani, Leadership Skills from IIM Ahmedabad, and Trading Basics from the Indian School of Business, will be translated into 18 languages, including French, Spanish, German, and Thai. This aligns with India's aspiration to emerge as a global center for education.

The introduction of the GenAI Academy marks the commencement of offering fundamental literacy and executive education programs by renowned universities and companies, including Stanford Online, Vanderbilt, DeepLearning.AI, Google Cloud, and AWS. Coursera Plus subscribers can now access the beta version of Coursera Coach, a GenAI-powered virtual learning assistant that delivers personalized feedback, answers queries, and provides summaries of video lectures and resources. Notably, Coursera Coach also facilitates interaction in the learner's local language. Additionally, Coursera Course Builder, another AI-driven tool, automatically generates content, encompassing course structures, descriptions, readings, assignments, and glossaries, based on prompts from human authors.
