The multinational semiconductor company AMD recently unveiled a bold $400 million investment strategy for India's continued development. The business will launch its biggest design centre yet this year in Bangalore, India, where it plans to create 3,000 engineering jobs by 2028. The new Bangalore office will have large lab spaces, cutting-edge collaboration technologies, and specially designed seating arrangements to promote team engagement. This investment supports the policy initiatives taken by the Indian government to promote the expansion of the semiconductor sector.

AMD has been part of India's semiconductor ecosystem since 2001. Now, with the new 500,000-square-foot Bangalore campus, it will expand to a total of 10 locations across key cities, including Bangalore, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Telecommunications, Electronics and IT, Government of India, said, "We welcome the AMD plan to expand its leading-edge R&D engineering operations in India.”

Additionally, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, commented, “I welcome AMD's decision to set up its largest R&D design center in India and expansion of the India-AMD partnership. It will certainly play an important role in building a world-class semiconductor design and innovation ecosystem. It will also provide tremendous opportunities for our large pool of highly skilled semiconductor engineers and researchers and will catalyze PM Narendra Modi’s vision of India becoming a global talent hub,"

Mark Papermaster, EVP and CTO of AMD, stated, "From a handful of employees in 2001 to more than 6,500 employees today, AMD has grown its India footprint based on the strong foundation established by our local leadership and the highly skilled talent pool. Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide. By further investing and expanding our presence in Bangalore, we are committed to driving innovation in India to support the India Semiconductor Mission.”
