Johns Hopkins University was started in 1876 with Daniel Coit Gilman as its first president. The institution got its name after a noted entrepreneur John Hopkins who left $7 million for the creation of this school. Known for its natural science department, the university has been rated as the top spending school in the fields of science, medical research, and engineering development.

#8 Parsons The New School for Design

Parsons The New School for Design is the most prestigious art and design universities in the world. William Merritt Chase, an impressionist painter, established the school in 1896, thus this institution was earlier called as Chase school.  New York School of Art, New York School of Fine and Applied Art and Parsons School of Design were the other names of this institution. It became part of the New School for Social Research in 1970. It has created outstanding designers, business men and artists.
