The report has shown that emergence of new media and social media impact on workplace. Today, we are working with a virtual world and the constant connectivity to Internet through laptops, tablets and smartphones help us to take our work anywhere.  As you can probably visualize the other end, it gives a constant temptation to be relaxed from work. Two-thirds of the surveyed had revealed they spend time at work for non-working activities. Among the non-working activities, visiting Facebook topped the list. While 41 percent respondents visit Facebook, 37 percent log in to their LinkedIn, Yahoo and Google+ also attracts so many employees. Amazon is another place for employees.  The list has shown people spend time for personal emails, e-shopping, social networking, Googling and visiting new sites.  Compared to women employees, men waste more time on internet at work. 69 percent of men spend work time for personal reasons whereas 62 percent women spend work time for non-working activities. 

Does education make you lazy? The survey found that the more educated you are the more time you waste at work. Proving with the evidence, 67 percent PhDs are reported wasting time at work, bachelor’s degrees at 66 percent, master’s degrees at 65 percent whereas only 59 percent high school graduates waste their time at work.

Many of the organizations have blocked personal sites like Facebook and Twitter to stop their employees spending time for personal activities. While 30 percent of the surveyed says their company blocked personal sites, 60 percent of the employees would use their smartphones or tablets or laptops to access internet for personal reasons. Most of the employees use their working hours for searching future jobs, the report says.
