Women on Top in the Hiring List in India

Bangalore: Indian women are showing their talent in all the fields and many of the Indian companies have started hiring more women workers across the country to balance it with their male counter parts in their companies. This is the right opportunity for the women to show that they are no longer staying back from showing their skills. IBM is hiring only women employees every three to four times a year by selecting them from different cities across the country, reports the Economic Times. Kalpana Veeraraghavan, diversity manager for India and South Asia at IBM said that their company always tries to find new ways to hire women employees and that is not just to fill a talent crunch, because, there is a strong co-relation between success in the market place and having a diverse workforce. IBM has hired over 2,000 women workers in the past two years. The company officials have given the percentage of women workers, as it has increased from 24 percent to 26 percent. As more number of women workforces makes business sense, India Inc wants more women workers on its rolls. In 2010, Chennai based company FLEXI Careers India, had placed women in 88 positions but this year it has gone up to 388 and the annual salaries for these positions totaled up to 2.9 crores in 2010 but this year it has raised to 19.4 crores. Saundarya Rajesh, FLEXI Careers founder- director said that it is roughly the amount that a small segment of Indian companies has budgeted to spend on the hiring of women. There are many other companies like HUL, Godrej Industries, Pepsico, Genpact, Kraft, P&G, Deutsche Bank and others which have stepped up gender diversity hiring recently. Executive search firm says that, the companies are trying to retain the women workers in new and vigorous ways, apart from bringing in more women employees. Women are the most dynamic and fastest- growing economic force in the world today.Indira Screymour, VP (HR) at Genpact told the overall ratio of men and women in their company is 60:40 and women are not only making up half the talent pool but also 50 percent of our clients and consumers. So, she was of the opinion that ensuring diversity impacts their business in a positive manner.
