Wipro, HP, ICICI - Is management reshuffling the new trend in 2011?
Bangalore: New Year 2011 seems to bring a trend of top management especially Chief Executive Officer's (CEO's) reshuffling globally. Top corporates like Wipro, HP, Nokia and ICICI have either announced or are preparing to announce replacement in their management. Wipro appears fresh in the queue with the announcement of T.K. Kurien as their new Chief Executive Officer for IT business and Executive Director of the company on January 21st. Girish Paranjpe and Suresh Vaswani, the joint CEO's for the company are stepping down from their responsibilities effective from 1st February, 2011. Azim Premji, Chairman, Wipro, said that joint CEO structure was made to navigate through the complexities that arose during recession. Now with the change in the environment simple organizational structure is required. Strong reasons were not given by the management for the replacement. On the other hand Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced the reshuffling of its Board of Directors. In its announcement, HP disclosed that four members of its board members- Joel Hyatt, John Joyce, Robert Ryan and Lucille Salhany were stepping down and five new directors were being appointed. Cell phone giant Nokia's Chief Executive Officer, Olli Pekka Kallasvuo may be replaced in mid of this year as reported by Printwords. The shareholders of the company want the present CEO be removed as the company has suffered huge losses in his tenure. ICICI securities CEO, Madhabi Puri Buch may quit on the personal grounds. According to reports from VC circle, she's likely to quit due to his husband who's relocated in Singapore. Dirk Meyer, Chief Executive Officer, Advanced Mobile Devices (AMD) quits abruptly. Much of the reason for Meyer's departure had to do with currents of discontent on the board about AMD's choice not to pursue making chips for the mobile market other than netbooks, the company source said. Accenture follows the trend and appoints Avinash Vashistha as the new Managing Director to the company along with the designation of Co-Chairman with Harsh Manglik who intends to retire later this year. Though we can't see common grounds and specific reasons for CEO's quitting. We expect, 2011 will witness many more current CEO's stepping down.
