In Andhra Pradesh, during this year, only about 2.03 lakh students managed to clear the engineering entrance test conducted by that government. The AICTE had earlier tentatively approved the creation of another forty thousand to fifty thousand seats across the state. So, by seeing the number of students qualified in the entrance exam, if the AICTE gives final approval the number of vacant seats would increase and it might even go up to 1.5 lakh. The State of Maharashtra has also told that the number of vacant seats in the engineering colleges has increased dramatically in that state over the last three years. Rajesh Tope, Minister of higher and technical education told that they have decided not to approve anymore engineering seats for Maharashtra after they have witnessed the current situation where around 30,000 seats are left unfilled in the engineering.
