Ways to Tackle an Insecure Boss

Rely On Documentation

Relying on documentation can be a great help when it comes to dealing with insecure bosses. As per Shrey Jain, an IT professional, relying on mails to validate his/her discussion with a superior can be a great help when he/she goes back on what was discussed and also puts their fears to rest.

Respect Hierarchies

Insecure bosses are very mindful of hierarchy and they prefer to be in the loop. Hence avoid reaching out the boss’s boss for approvals or suggesting plans, at least in his/her presence.

Seek Advice from Superiors

As per Teresa Amabile, a professor and director of Research at Harvard Business School, insecure bosses or people with insecurities in general tend to give harsher evaluations, perhaps as a ploy for proving how smart they are. If all attempts to calm your boss’s fear and insecurities fail and has serious repercussions on your performance, it is best to reach out to your superiors or the HR personnel’s for advice on how to tackle the issue or the situation.
