Walmartlabs to Bring In Hundreds Of Jobs In Bengaluru
BANGALORE: WalmartLabs has reduced on the third-party outsourcing in India as it aims at reinforcing its in-house technology team with an aim to introduce hundreds of jobs at its Bangalore centre over the following few years, cited its technology chief. U.S. based retailing store is also looking forward in strengthening its digital arm whilst engaging with startups from India, reports ET.
Jeremy King said, "WalmartLabs has largely shifted away from the outsourcers—we used to be 80pct outsource and now we've gone to 20pct outsource and, typically when we outsource, it's a very specialist sort of technology or capability that we're looking for and we just go with one of the big guys. So, our relationship has changed dramatically in the last four years and we say you can't outsource innovation". While Wal-Mart third-party outsourcing firms include TCS and Infosys, WalmartLabs are maneuvering in taking a completely different approach. Furthermore, U.S. companies like drug maker AstraZeneca, retailer Target and home improvement giant Lowe's are among many others that are reworking on their strategies and have started insourcing more tech work for their own captive centers.
King has met with several Indian startups during his recent visit to Bengaluru and is hoping to establish work and potentially invest in Indian startups to obtain new bets and technology. "if we really like the technology, we talk to them about using their technology and tools—we'll hopefully be much more active in Bengaluru in the near term," he said. WalmartLabs are now developing innovative new technology solutions to bring up the in-store customers experiences as well as bring up open-source technologies
