London: British Home Secretary Theresa May could exert the fatal blow on foreign students by announcing the government's idea of curtailing foreign visas by 100,000, annually.
May will also announce several measures to counter the menace of fake colleges and could make things tough for students, wanting to study at below degree level, by imposing restrictions on them. The government could also go ahead with its agenda of debilitating the controversial scheme that gives thousands of foreign graduates an option to go on a job hunt by staying in the country, even after the completion of their degree.
This decision was made to get a closure on the serious issue of fake private colleges, flourishing in the country that victimizes one in seven foreign students.
Whitehall sources have opined that this move, along with other measures like a must English language requirement, will thwart the influx of students in the UK each year by 80,000.
The government justified its stand by acknowledging the valuable contribution of international students towards the UK's economy. But, said that its hands are completely tied because old student visa regime has failed to ostracize immigration in order to protect legitimate students from the deadly claws of poor quality colleges.
The unregulated colleges have taken the undue advantage of the faith placed on them. There has been a constant tampering with the education system, as the government has been hoodwinked by these students who come to U.K. for working and not studying.
