Top-Level Attrition - The Latest Problem for India's e-Com Sites

BENGALURU: Senior officials in top Indian websites are facing attrition and that is the latest big problem on their end.

Top notch officials of websites like Flipkart, Ola and Zomato are leaving the companies in chunks.

General counsel and head legal of Flipkart, Srivals Kumar resigned following footsteps of four of this colleagues in the same year. The list includes Ravi Vora, chief executive of strategic brands group; Sameer Nigam, engineering head; and Amod Malviya, Chief Technology Officer.

If looked at the recruitments by Flipkart this year, the scene is neither bad. It started with former Google executive Punit Soni as Flipkart’s chief product officer and many more.

At Zomato, senior vice president, Durga Raghunath resigned adding to a long list of senior professionals who left the food website on the same year. Some officials like Namita Gupta, former chief product officer, and Rameet Arora, former chief marketing officer left the company even before completing half a year.

CEO of talent acquisition firm Basil Advisors, Prateek Srivastava comments, “(The resignations have) less to do with compensation. You can attract the best talent with money, but you're not going to always retain them with money."

Sunit Mehra, managing partner with Hunt Partners India, a recruiting company comments on these Indian websites - "are growing so rapidly that they haven't built the fundamental concept of retaining people, especially at the top-level."
