To Get a Job, Stop Being Anxious
BENGALURU: Interviews and clearance examinations are a big challenge for any candidate applying for a job. Heavy preparations are done prior to the interviews as candidates want to make sure that everything is perfect; and in this process they become very anxious. A study by Amanda Feiler and Deborah Powell of University of Guelph, Canada said that interview candidates who are calm during the process are preferred much more than an anxious one, as reported by Business Today.
According to their observation of anxious candidates and the responses received, it is suggested that people should try to be more warm, friendly and positive in their attitude during their interview process.
In this process, many potential candidates capable of doing the job are rejected and losing the opportunity as they are anxious. This study published in Springer’s Journal of Business and Psychology reflects that recruiters judge the nervousness of candidates via their talking speed. If a person speaks too fast, it highlights the amount of nervousness he is going through. It is also noticed that people who are anxious are comparably negative and don’t show any personal warmth. This tendency is often considered as negative and such candidates are often rejected.
