1. Be prompt to decline the offer:  As soon as you make your decision of renouncing the job offer, make sure you inform the company at least before 10 days of the joining date, as it is very important to send an advance notice to the HR of that company saying that you are unable to join them mentioning the reason. It will be quite helpful for the company as they will be able to arrange for a backup for that position.  

2. Maintain a concise and positive note: Remember that it is always okay to say that you are rejecting a job offer because you have accepted another which you feel is more promising, however abstain highlighting details of the designation you are about to join and  the salary that you are likely to get. Instead let the recruiter know that you are quite impressed by the company, but are more interested in opting for the job that suits your career objective well.
