Tier 2 City Students Trump Tier 1 Peers In Employability: Study

BENGALURU: India Skills Report 2016 reveals Tier 2 city students to have greater employability potential than Tier 1. Over 50pct students from Tier 2 cities were found employable after this survey. The employable students’ percentage in Tier 1 cities came to 30pct.

The Tier2 cities include Lucknow, Patna, Dehradun and more.

In Tier 2 cities, female employability shot upto 40pct which was 36pct last year. Female employability for Tier 1 cities is 36pct now, compared to 32pct last year.

Female employability has been shown highest in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Engineering students have more employability factors than BA, BCom, ITI, and polytechnics streams.

Another positive reveal from the same survey is that the hiring sentiment of Indian youth is positive and employment as a whole has shot up 15pct in 2015.

5.2 lacs students participated in this survey conducted over 29states and 7 union territories.

If considered state wise, highest participation has been showed by Uttar Pradesh followed by Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka and Bihar.

Andhra Pradesh showed highest employability both in case of male and female candidates.

Among students in the age group of 18-21years, 60 pct were considered employable. In the next category of 22-25 years, the same portion was 31.6pct. For 26-29 years, this went down to 21.9pct.

The survey was conducted by Wheebox, an online talent assessment firm, in collaboration with PeopleStrong, CII, LinkedIn and Association of Indian Universities.
