Three Female Entrepreneurs Describe Their Road To Success

BANGALORE: Tanvi and Shivani are co founders of the online clothing and accessories platform FabAlley, and Richa Kar started the online lingerie portal Zivame.

To promote FabAlley, in January of this year Tanvi and Shivani released a social media ad campaign #Unfollow featuring comedian Radhika Vaz posing nude.  Although the worried about negative reactions, Poddar said that "The 'Unfollow' message needed to be conveyed with a bang and there was no point in being squeamish about it". "No great business was ever built by playing safe" added Tanvi.

Their risky move paid off as now FabAlley receives over 800 orders a day. Similarly, Richa launched an offline campaign called ‘Fit is my Right’ aimed at reaching over 5 lakh women to teach them about how to determine their correct bra size.

"We want to make lingerie mainstream and acceptable, and not something women have to feel ashamed about. Entrepreneurs have got to be bold because solving big problems demands the ability and courage of conviction to think and act boldly.” Said Kar.

Zivame recently raised more than $9million from venture capital firms like Kalaari Capital, IDG Ventures and Unilazer Ventures.

Among the entrepreneur’s tips for success: ‘Stay weird, stay different’, ‘Dream big’, ‘Don't let comfort lull you from trying out something different which you believe in’, ‘If you have an idea, act on it so that you don't regret a missed opportunity and ‘Never underestimate your abilities. You are as good as any other man/woman.’
