9. Bangalore University

The Bangalore University, which is part of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and affiliated by University Grants Commission (UGC) was established in 1886.

The University was initially called as the Central College, Bangalore, by the British Raj. It was later renamed as the Bangalore University by the UGC on 10th July 1964 under the then State of Mysore to consolidate institutions of higher education in the garden city of India.

The university operates from Jnana Bharathi Campus and is also the parent institute of universities such as the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

Another feather in the cap of this illustrious university is its Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM) which has been designated by ISRO to train astronauts for the Indian space program.

Bangalore University is also recognized as the university that produces the largest number of Ph.Ds in India, and hence has acquired a good reputation among foreign universities. Consequently, the university has become a center of attraction and hosts an ever increasing number of foreign students.
